China-US trade: Opportunities and Challenges in the Post-Industrial Age—An Industrial Revolution from a Physicist’s View
To encourage the interdisciplinary communication between finance and advanced manufacturing professionals, on Saturday morning 20th July, Professor Zhaoyuan Ma, the Chief Researcher of Future Lab and Director of Digitalisation of Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre from Tsinghua University, was invited by PHBS UK to give a seminar on “China-US trade: Opportunities and Challenges in the Post-Industrial Age—An Industrial Revolution from a Physicist’s View”.
The seminar was held at Mansfield College of Oxford University, and participants included China Construction Bank (CCB) students, Oxford University scholars and doctoral students.. The seminar was chaired by the Head of PHBS UK, Professor Guy Liu, who appreciated Professor Ma as Peking University Alumina for the talk.
At the beginning, Professor Ma illustrated issues faced by post-industrial countries, including population decline, falling of GDP growth, and the gap between the downturn of first generation of Industrialisation and the less development of Advanced Manufacturing.
Then, Professor Ma analysed related social pains with examples from China to the US respectively. Furthermore, combined with introducing an example of MRC Lab of University of Sheffield, Professor Ma discussed a need of transforming the current industry chain, reforming education and training system to engineering talent, for upgrading China’s industries. At the end of the seminar, Professor Ma argued that Intellectual Property Rights shall be redefined in order to encourage international collaboration, knowledge and resources sharing in research and development, from the perspective of human being as a unity to share the same fate for better life.
